Class objective(s) (learning outcomes)
This course aims to:

- assist course participants in becoming aware of and sensitive to the multiplicity of cultures and gender specific issues as they relate to management and marketing (e.g., work attitudes and consumer behavior)

- apply knowledge paradigms in cross-cultural and gender communication to generate a broader understanding of differences in order to manage diverse people and their needs in today's dynamic work- and marketplace

- review contemporary literature examining variety of thought and communcation patterns as they pertain to culture and gender differences

- develop critical and creative thinking skills free of bias and stereotypes for problem solving and decision-making in culturally and gender diverse business environments

Teaching and learning method(s)
The course will take place over four days and will incorporate formal lectures, discussion workshops and a group project.

Class participation (30%)
Case study summaries (20%)
Team project write up (20%)
Presentation (30%)

Attendance in mandatory in ALL four class sessions!

Please DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS CLASS should this class schedule conflict with your other classes and/or other obligations (e.g. work schedules).
Students must obtain the class reader and do the pre-course assignments (readings, case summaries) BEFORE the first class session. The reader will be available approx. two weeks before in the IMM department during the office hours.

Students who fail to pick up the reader on time and have not done the assignment will not be able to participate in class. As you are evaluated to a large extent on your participation and work in class, your presence is mandatory during the entire session over the four day period!

The course provides a background for understanding and managing cultural synergy and human dynamics in a multi-cultural business environment. The emphasis is on the role of women in interpersonal and organizational communication within a cross-cultural business environment. Diversity of cultural values and communication patterns in dynamic business and lifestyle systems are analyzed and discussed.
